Breakfast Recipes (1) - Acai Smoothie Bowl
I'm not sure why I grew up so obsessed with the first meal of the day, but I can admit, hands down, that breakfast has always been my favourite food group. My obsession has grown even stronger after branching out and realizing that breakfast doesn't have to mean having the same bowl of cereal + milk every single day ;) For as long as I can remember, every Sunday, my dad would cook us a huge breakfast complete with bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast, etc, etc, and as I'm sure you guessed by now that that was basically my favourite time of the week haha. Since the human adult body probably should not survive off of a huge brunch meal every day of the week, I've since adapted an eating style that is a bit easier on my body. I know hearing that breakfast is the most important meal of the day sounds like a broken record at this point, but it's the truth; not feeding your body the proper nutrition in the morning definitely sets your stomach + digestion off to a bad start, so today--and the next 2 Mondays of February--I'm sharing easy, yummy, and unique breakfasts that are different from cereal + milk or toast + peanut butter ;)
Everyone has various dietary preferences, so I wanted to share meals that would be suitable for everyone; gluten-free, dairy free, vegan, vegetarian. I didn't invent these meals haha but they are often adjusted to suit my own preferences and tastes. Cooking/making things is intended to be enjoyable, and it's all about adjusting various elements to make them suit you! This first recipe is an Superfruit Acai bowl; if you live in a small town, you most likely will not be able to find these frozen Acai packs in your local grocery store, but if you are in the city you'll find these in Planet Organic in the freezer aisle. If you are unable to find the acai packets, choosing a smoothie bowl recipe off of this website is equally as nutritious and delicious!
How I made my SUPERFRUIT ACAI SMOOTHIE BOWL: 1. Follow packet instructions and run frozen pack under water for 5-10 seconds. 2. Dump/break pack into blender, and add 1/4 cup of non-dairy milk & a banana. 3. Pour into bowl and top with your favourite toppings (I used cut up banana, strawberries, broken cashews, granola, chia seeds, and some natural peanut butter. 4. Grab a spoon and enjoy; it's that easy!!
