Weekly Feature - Emily Banek

I am continuously so thankful that I stumbled across Emily's blog! I was browsing some of my own favourite blogs when I saw a link to another blog that looked like something I'd enjoy; little did I know that I would discover an incredibly unique and talented individual from right here in the same city as me! I am really looking forward to getting to know Emily more, maybe a coffee meet up is in order?? Find out more about her for yourself by reading below:

My name is emily and I am a 20 year old Edmonton native. I am a left handed list maker, frequent coffee shop goer and die-hard sentimentalist. But most passionately, I am a creative photographer, new to the professional industry, who strives to capture the details of precious moments just before they slip away with the hustle and bustle of the world. My ultimate goal is to take captive the beauty in everyone and everything with every photograph.

1. Favorite blogger/blog to read? Ahhh - I have so many favourite blogs book marked it's not even funny! But if I had to choose one, Sydney Poulton's The Daybook would probably be it! Her humour and her wit just pulls you in. Plus, she has a dream of a wardrobe haha.

What is your favourite creative pass time? Taking pictures, editing each one with love, then rearranging them into a story. I am also a do-it-yourself project junkie - one of mine and my best friend's fav thing to do!

Tell us about your favourite adventure you’ve ever been a part of? There really hasn't been one stand out adventure that comes to mind. But I feel as though all the little adventures I've had day by day add up to be something more than any one trip I've been on or any one achievement I've accomplished. I believe that each day is made up of its own little adventures and it's up to you to seek them out!

Coffee or tea? What’s your favourite kind? Unquestionably tea. Loose leaf earl grey and chai are where it's at!

What’s your favourite way to spend a Saturday? Get up early (I am a lover of early mornings), bake something as the sun rises, and adventure around the city taking pictures of skylines and city slickers. Watching independent films at the downtown theatre with great friends as the sun finishes it's course is almost always a must! ...All the while listening to the National or some Mumford :)

What is one goal (can be personal, business related, etc) that you are currently working towards this fall? I definitely want to try my hand at film. I recently bought a Canon AE-1 but I have yet to really spend some quality one on one time with it! I also want to get in touch with more local artists and photographers alike, like Kaihla, who share the same vision as I!

Leave a piece of advice to others beginning their journey down a creative pathway (whether it be photographer, writer, blogger, designer etc), what was the best thing that someone told you when starting out? I know about every photographer/blogger says this haha but simply be yourself! Pretending to be someone/something you are not will get really tiring after a while. And be proud of your work - if you love it, chances are other people will also! Your confidence and passion will speak through your art, in my case my photographs, and people won't have any choice but to love who you are and what you do!
